**The cosmetology instructor program is by invitation only

The curriculum involves 600 hours which exceeds Michigan state requirements by 100 clock hours. The course educates prospective cosmetology teachers to address the needs of students in the classroom and the clinic floor. The prospective teachers learn to manage their thoughts with the system of forward-focused thinking by front-end coaching. By learning the methods of teaching cosmetology, the prospective teachers learn to engage students in the learning process and stimulate the discovery process with visuals, music, or learning activities.

*Graduate’s are prepared to be entry level instructor.

COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR COURSE OVERVIEW

Course Hours: 600 clock hours

The cosmetology teacher course is divided into pre-clinical instruction and clinical service learning experiences.

  1. Pre-clinical Classroom Instruction: The first 125 hours are devoted to classroom workshops, where the instructor learns teaching principles, technical information and professional practices.
  2. Clinic Classroom Learning Experience: The remaining 475 hours are spent in the clinic area where practical experience is gained.

COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR COURSE OUTLINE

Your time at Paul Mitchell The School Michigan for the cosmetology program will be divided into three designations:

  1. Postgraduate Training: A section is a refresher on cosmetology skills, where you will complete worksheets and take cosmetology written exams.
  2. Psychology and Methodology: These classes focus on the theory of teaching, using Milady’s Master Educator textbook, including weekly tests.
  3. Student Teaching: You will learn to write lesson plans and do actual teaching from your lesson plans. There will be a practical teaching evaluation of your teaching skills.

The institution offers employment assistance to help graduates’ efforts to secure education-related employment that includes, but is not limited to training in professionalism, resume’ development, job interview preparation and job search skills.

Rationale for Longer Hours for Short Programs: Based on feedback received we found it necessary to increase the hours for our short programs. Doing so is a direct advantage to Future Professionals for their employment preparedness, academic success, and industry needs.

Distance Education hours and assignments are graded and recorded daily. Theory chapter exams, final exams and final practical evaluations must completed in the school facility.

COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM TESTING AND GRADING PROCEDURE

The following tests and grading procedures are used to assess student learning and mastery of course content in the 600-hour course:

  1. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each theory exam. Theory exams cover a review of the Milady’s Master Educator Student Course book. Theory exams must be completed within the school facility and cannot be taken through distance education.
  2.  Students must receive 75% or higher on each final exam; final exams cover a complete overview of the Milady’s Master Educator Student Course book. Final exams must be completed within the school facility and cannot be taken through distance education.
  3. Distance Education Assessments: Students must complete a distance education written assessment and practical skill assessment. These are based on performance and must be completed on-campus each month. The distance education assessment will focus on the distance education subjects covered during that time period. Students must receive a grade of 75% or higher on each distance education written assessment and each practical assessment. Only students enrolled in the distance education program are required to complete these assessments.

COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES AND METHODS

The 600 hour cosmetology instructor program are provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for State Board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans that reflect the latest educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers, field trips, and other related learning methods are used in the course.

In order to enroll in the hybrid program of study, the Future Professional must have the following hardware, software, and network requirements:
